🌌 Why It’s Epic
A blood moon is a rare cosmic alignment — Earth, moon, and sun syncing up during a total lunar eclipse 🌎☀️🌕 to paint the sky red ❤️ as sunlight bends through our atmosphere.
During totality, Earth’s shadow engulfs the Moon, turning it into a blazing, blood-red beacon amid a sea of stars. This fiery hue comes from sunlight filtering through Earth’s atmosphere, scattering blue light and casting only the warm reds and oranges of a sunrise or sunset onto the lunar surface—a cosmic glow-up like no other!
This September 7–8, 2025, event is the second of two total lunar eclipses in 2025, both blood moons! The first, on March 13–14, 2025, was a total lunar eclipse visible across North America, including Rockbridge County, with a 65‑minute totality.
The next total lunar eclipse — another blood moon — hits on March 2–3, 2026, also visible in North America, including Rockbridge County, with a 58‑minute totality.
