For many people, words like organic, locally sourced, healthfood, vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, signify a lifestyle choice. Yet for others, hearing these words doesn’t always spark an immediate craving or elicit a mouth watering reaction.
Enter GloBowl Cafe: a culinary haven where the delightful intersection of taste and wellness brings to life an array of soups, salads, bowls, and even desserts that are as delicious as they are nourishing. And if you are looking for more traditional comfort food, I promise you will love their Empanadas: crispy, flaky and delicious in portabella mushroom and traditional beef varieties.
Some of my other favorites: Bombay Bowl (curried chickpeas with peanuts, red lentils, carrots, and sweet peppers, served over a bed of brown rice, garnished with avocado oil & apple cider vinegar massaged kale salad); Mediterranean Falafel Salad (vegan dressed salad greens, cucumbers, tomatoes, red onion & Kalamata olives with feta crumbles, served with tahini-coated falafels over brown rice & kale/chickpea hummus); and, not on the menu but one of their current specials, Taco Salad (seasoned soy protein & black bean, jalapeno and cilantro corn salad over a bed of tortilla chips topped with house-made tomato salsa, romaine lettuce, guacamole, green onions, sour cream and fiesta cheese).
While all menu options at GloBowl trend towards vegetarian or vegan, for $5-$8, you can add a protein side: house made falafels, served with a side of hummus, sesame-coated baked salmon, or a skewer of grilled chicken chunks served with super garlicky and delicious tzatziki sauce.
I have only dined at GloBowl three times, so I have much of the menu yet to explore! I hope to report more in the future and, given the creativity and flavors I've enjoyed so far, I'm particularly excited to try their soups and desserts.
Two more delicious items worth mentioning are the Iced Coconut Chai Latte and the Roasted Beet and Goat Cheese Salad. The latte offers a refreshing twist on a classic, blending the creamy richness of coconut, the unique spice of Chai with the robust flavor of coffee - a perfect indulgence for any time of day. Many fellow foodies would agree, the beet/goat cheese salad is often a marriage made in heaven, where the bold, earthy flavors of roasted beets meld with the sharp tanginess of goat cheese, creating an explosion of taste in every bite. This dish reaches new heights when complemented by a glass of red wine, elevating your culinary experience to pure bliss 🙂 You can easily make this happen by ordering take-out from GloBowl and visiting one of Rockbridge County’s five wineries!
