Blue Ridge Mountain Views and the Sounds of “Hoss” – Great Valley Farm Brewery and Winery, Featuring the Music of Jason Hostetter
Jason Hostetter and Great Valley Farm Brewery and Winery have been a staple of Rockbridge County for many years. If you appreciate well crafted wine, beer and music you probably already are aware of these Rockbridge County favorites, but if you haven’t discovered them yet, you definitely will want to check them out!
Great Valley Farm Brewery and Winery, located at 60 Great Valley Lane in Natural Bridge, Virginia, is a well known and celebrated establishment by both locals and visitors.
They blend a traditional vineyard with the innovation of a craft brewery. Renowned for its artisanal Belgian farmhouse-style beers and a selection of wines from their 6-acre vineyard, the venue offers a unique tasting experience in an incredibly picturesque setting, showcasing amazing mountain vista views.
Enhancing the atmosphere this afternoon was the musical talent of Jason Hostetter, a gifted guitarist and vocalist. He is known for his diverse performances, which include a wide variety of genres, spanning from the 50s to the present. Jason's deep voice is particularly well-suited for songs by artists like Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings. But he maintains his own style with his unique voice, as well as being a skilled guitarist, improvising and adding a little something extra to already great tunes. He has been a featured performer at local events such as "Cheers with the Chamber,” “Balloons Over Rockbridge,” and “Rockin’ the Gorge”, and maintains an active schedule of bookings in and around Rockbridge County and up and down the east coast.
Back to our venue: Along with great beer and wine, Great Valley provides a variety of snacks, including chips, charcuterie, and cheese. Additionally, the venue often hosts food trucks, especially during live music events, to offer a variety of food to complement the tastings.
Great Valley Farm Brewery and Winery is more than just a destination for wine and beer connoisseurs; it's a vibrant cultural venue. It combines the enjoyment of locally-produced beverages with the scenic splendor of the Shenandoah Valley and the rich musical experiences provided by talented artists like Jason Hostetter. This combination of fine drinks, stunning views, and quality entertainment makes it a must-visit spot in Rockbridge County!
Speaking of Jason Hostetter, aka “Hoss”, his shows are known for their wide-ranging musical selection and engaging delivery. He plays at least a little bit of everything, but despite his young age, he will tell you the 60s and 70s are his favorite decades.
Whether you are already a fan or want a great introduction to some amazing music of the past, you do not want to miss a chance to see “Hoss” perform. I love to hear him sing Johnny, Waylon, Willie, Glen, Coe, Prine, and so many more classic artists. He sings “The Highwayman” and changes his voice for all 4 singers! Hearing "Hoss" sing with his own distinctive voice, and also channel amazing performers of the past, makes for an unforgettable show.
As far as more modern music, it is tough to pick favorites from so many great artists in his repertoire. I particularly enjoy his renditions of Chris Stapleton, Darius Rucker, Steve Earle, Sturgil Simpson, Tyler Childress, Colby Acuff, Blake Shelton, Toby Keith, Jamey Johnson, and so many more.
He can rock out “Operator" by Jim Croce, play a medley, switching from The Marshall Tucker Band, to Led Zeppelin, play instrumental Pink Floyd, giving his voice a short respite, and then deliver great renditions of The Eagles, CCR, or Robert Earl Keen. After seeing over a dozen shows it truly seems the list goes on forever and the party never ends!
Jason Hostetter puts on an amazing show by himself, but I would be remiss not to mention, he sometimes performs with other amazing musicians, most notably as "Hoss and the Soss” and "Hoss and the Boss.” Jeff Mason, aka “Soss”, was somewhat of a mentor to "Hoss" and is one heck of a singer, bass guitar player, drummer, and overall multi-instrumentalist! Jeff was also a long time member of big time local favorite group, The Red Hill Band. Stacey Stevens, aka the “Boss”, may wear a suit and tie 9-5, but is happiest with a guitar in his hands, and boy does he know how to use it! He literally has a degree in “shredding.” Stacey does double duty for several bands, both singing and shredding the guitar, with Little Marvin and the Martians and Southpaw. Jeff Mason also plays bass for Little Marvin and the Martians. As you may have noticed Jason Hostetter has long been a part of an amazing group of local musicians that jam together, support and root for each other. We are truly lucky to have this Nashville level talent in Rockbridge, VA!
Multiple times I have been lucky enough to experience the combination of Great Valley and the super talented Jason Hostetter. Every time "Hoss" plays I hear tons of my favorite songs, and yet every time, I hear something I have never heard him play before. I can not recommend this Rockbridge combo enough! If you know of a place on earth enjoying a better view, better people, better wine/beer/music combo, please let me know so I can check it out! You can see Hoss at Great Valley Brewery and Winery on June 21, May 12, July 21, August 30 and September 22.
