Discovering Treasures: The Barn Antiques & More… – Thrives Under New Ownership in Lexington, VA
Situated in the rolling heart of Rockbridge County, where the Blue Ridge Mountains whisper secrets to the valleys below, The Barn Antiques & More stands out as a true haven for lovers of history, craftsmanship, and the thrill of the hunt. Formerly Thriftiques Tack & Antiques, The Barn Antiques & More thrives under new ownership: a sanctuary for equestrian enthusiasts, vintage aficionados, and anyone seeking that perfect piece to spark joy in their home.
Step inside, and you're immediately enveloped by the scent of aged wood and polished leather—a symphony of stories waiting to be discovered. The Barn isn't just a store; it's a portal to yesteryear, where every aisle brims with curated finds that evoke the spirit of Virginia's Appalachian heritage. Under the stewardship of Betsy Franklin Rogers, who took the reins with a passion for preservation and discovery, the space has expanded its charm while honoring its roots. Betsy's vision? To blend the rugged elegance of horse tack with the refined allure of jewelry, clothing, antiques and vintage treasures, creating a one-stop sanctuary for those who appreciate the patina of time.
Betsy's influence stretches beyond Lexington to The Depot on Main Antiques and More, located in the heart of Clifton Forge at 528 Main Street. Housed in the previous location of the Clifton Forge Antique Mall, this vibrant space is steeped in local character and rich history, offering a unique shopping experience. Spanning approximately 5,000 square feet, The Depot features more than 40 local artisans showcasing mid-century treasures, railroad relics, pottery, jewelry, and beyond at approachable prices. Betsy's own curated selections standout and turn browsing into a delightful adventure.
For visitors charting the Alleghenies and Blue Ridge Mountains, both locations serve as prime destinations for a combo visit: Explore The Depot and then a quick 16-mile jaunt east leads to the storied Humpback Covered Bridge, America’s last standing humpback design and a beloved historic landmark set in a picturesque riverside park. Or take an 18-mile trip to the stunning Falling Spring Falls, where an 80-foot waterfall plunges into the Jackson River. From The Barn it is only 12 miles north to the majestic Goshen Pass, a breathtaking scenic drive renowned for its natural beauty and outdoor activities. All three storied wonders offer free public access, ensuring your antique and nature excursion through Shenandoah is both immersive and budget-friendly.
What keeps shoppers returning to The Barn and The Depot is the thrill of unexpected discoveries. On my last stop, I scored two massive rocking chairs—for only $150—that once belonged to Harold Reid, the smooth-voiced bass singer of the Statler Brothers quartet, famed for hits like "Flowers on the Wall" and "I'll Go To My Grave Loving You." Harold and his brother Don, both longtime residents of Staunton, VA, formed the core of this iconic group whose harmonies and classic country sound are woven into the Appalachian fabric. Crafted from rugged oak with that signature soothing rock and faint creak, these chairs probably hosted the brothers’ twilight strums against the backdrop of Blue Ridge views. Sourced through Betsy's expert network, they now grace two Rock River Experiences vacation rentals, letting guests rock their worries away as they unwind with a cocktail or wake up with a mug of morning brew, channeling that laid-back classic country groove.
With Betsy at the helm, The Barn buzzes with even more warmth and rustic appeal in its barn-like setting. Drop by for your vintage fix or to pick up a gift for a loved one. Catch sight of rocking chairs carrying a legend's lore? Snag them before they vanish like a Statler harmony drifting into the sunset.
