Humpback Covered Bridge, Falling Springs Falls, & Goshen Pass
Humpback Covered Bridge
- Built in 1857 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, it remains Virginia’s oldest covered bridge.
- Boasts a unique “humpback” design with an arched profile rising about 4 feet higher in the middle—the only example of this curved kingpost-truss construction in the United States.

- Originally described by Thomas Jefferson in his 1781 manuscript Notes on the State of Virginia as “a remarkable cascade… falling over a rock about 200 feet to the valley below.”
- Its height was reduced due to travertine limestone mining by local companies in the early 20th century, which also led to relocating the falls.
