“Rockin’ the Gorge” with Little Marvin and the Martians

"Rockin' the Gorge" has established itself as more than a music festival, but also a vibrant expression of Rockbridge county and of Glasgow's communal and artistic spirit. A diverse array of local talents are featured, alongside a variety of craft vendors and food options. The first concert, on June 21, 2021, showcased Jason Hostetter and Friends. More than just a musical spectacle, the event also offers various community-oriented services.  Proceeds from sales of event-themed merchandise, including T-shirts, were allocated to support future music events, demonstrating a strong commitment to the growth and sustainability of the local music scene.

Little Marvin and the Martians: A Band of Exceptional Talent

Little Marvin & The Martians, a versatile music group, showcase a diverse repertoire. Their music spans various genres including 80’s Rock, Classic Rock, Pop, and New Country. The band, composed of Stacy Stevens (Guitar/Vocals/Manager), Kimberly Northrup (Vocals), Jeff Mason (Bass/Vocals), and Jeff Sinnett (Drums), give an energetic performance appealing to a wide audience. With their ability to play a little bit of everything, they ensures there is something for every musical taste. I had the good fortune to catch their show at "Rockin' the Gorge" June 3rd, 2023 and really enjoyed it. I especially enjoyed being introduced to a fun song with a catchy beat: “Wine, Beer, Whiskey” by Little Big Town. Live music often offers the chance to hear old favorites, with the feel and vibrations only experienced in person, while also being introduced to new favorites at the same time! The Martians rocked out every song covered, new and old! Along with hearing a song I had never heard before, I also particularly enjoyed their Guns N’ Roses Medley and hearing Kimberly’s vocal versions of “Heart of Glass” and “Ex’s and Oh’s.”

More Details on the Band:

  • Stacy Stevens: Sings and strums. Remarkably, Stevens not only possesses a figurative mastery in guitar shredding but also holds a literal master’s degree in the field. His exceptional guitar skills, academically honed and creatively executed, add an electrifying edge to the band's performances.
  • Kimberly Northrup: Her versatile vocal prowess shines across various genres, from the energetic realms of 80’s Rock to the nuanced domains of Classic Rock, Pop, and New Country.
  • Jeff Mason: As the bassist/vocalist, Mason brings a depth to both the rhythm section and the vocal harmonies, enriching the band’s sound with his dual contributions.
  • Jeff Sinnett: Manning the drums, Sinnett provides the essential backbone to the band's eclectic musical style, ensuring each performance is rhythmically engaging and dynamically varied.

This lineup brings together a rich blend of talent and experience, contributing to the energetic and captivating performances that Little Marvin & The Martians are known for. They encourage the audience to get out of their seats and dance, creating a lively and memorable atmosphere.

Their songs are not just fun and lively party music, but also intentionally chosen to showcase Stacey’s prowess on the six string guitar, Kimberly’s wide range as a singer and Jeff Mason and Jeff Sinnett’s experience and skill on the bass guitar and drums. I highly recommend experiencing the unique blend and wide range of music Little Marvin & The Martians bring to the stage!
